At least 3 people from the same family were killed In a recent massacre in a rural area of the Cauca region, in the municipality of Piendamó in western Colombia.
Authorities said the deceased were a father and two sons, identified as Beimar Zamir Astudillo and Daniel and Miguel Ángel Astudillo Castillo, without specifying their ages for now. According to the Colombian newspaper ‘El Heraldo’, the massacre, condemned by residents, took place in a house in the indigenous district of La María, between the villages of Puentecita and Camilo Torres.
The Peace Research Institute (Indepaz) stated that armed groups such as the National Liberation Army (ELN) and other local gangs operate in this area. The Ombudsman Institution, on the other hand, warned of the impact of these groups’ actions on humanitarian aid due to the increase in murders and massacres of social leaders despite the decrease in armed actions against the State.
