Air Defense Command (NORAD) has confirmed that a US Air Force (AAF) F-16 fighter jet has indeed taken off to intercept a Cessna Citation over Washington. It has been reported DEA News With reference to the NORAD statement.
“The civil plane was intercepted at around 15:20 (22:20 Moscow time). The pilot did not respond and the plane later crashed.
The statement said the fighter pilot caused a sonic boom while flying at supersonic speeds, which caught the attention of local residents in the Washington area.
According to command information, NORAD tried to make contact with the pilot until the moment the plane crashed. No information was provided about the victims of the incident.
Earlier, Reuters, citing American officials, raised Warplanes in mid-air to track a Cessna Citation business jet that breached Washington area airspace and crashed into mountainous terrain in southwestern Virginia.
