Dogs suffer from cannabis poisoning due to improperly discarded cigarettes with this substance, reports Fox News.
When the toy poodle from New York came back from a walk, it started to stumble. Soon she was barely able to stand and her owner took her to the vet. The doctor said that the dog was given medicine. It turned out that before this street, he found and ate a thrown cigarette with hash. The owner complained that people were throwing half-smoked medicated cigarettes onto the sidewalks. In the city, cannabis can now be consumed in public places, so more and more dogs come across discarded drug lozenges and are naturally poisoned.
This is of concern to veterinarians, who believe they forget about the harm smokers can do with their trash. Marijuana poisoning is almost never fatal, but doctors say it’s rare among pets and, until recently, more common in homes where pets used to go into their owners’ hiding places.
In the first three months of 2023, the vet reported six cases of canine street poisoning, which is the same number he had experienced in three decades. It is known that in 2022, 11% more cases were registered than in 2021 – more than 6,000 cases, and the growth in the last five years was 300%.
In many cases, owners are unaware that their dogs have ingested marijuana residue until the animals show signs of poisoning. And even then, owners may not understand what is happening to their pets.
Earlier in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the wife said to her husband: who used marijuana before the trip.
