Navka said the doping scandal involving Valieva at the Beijing Games was sucked out of nowhere
2006 Olympic ice dancing champion Tatyana Navka shared her thoughts on the doping scandal with figure skater Kamila Valieva at the 2022 Games in Beijing. Her words are quoted by Sports Day by Day.
“We saw the disgusting behavior of international sports officials, their bullying of the girl,” Navka commented on the situation, noting that these people should be ashamed of themselves. She stated that the scandal had been sucked out of her finger. Navka expressed the hope that this story will make Valieva stronger and that she will win an Olympic gold medal for Russia.
Earlier, Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin called the scandal involving Valieva a wild accident. He added that he hopes for a fair result from the investigation.
The Valieva doping scandal broke out during the 2022 Games. Her December 25, 2021 test tested positive for the banned drug trimetazidine. The World Anti-Doping Agency and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) wanted to remove the figure skater, but the Court of Arbitration for Sport allowed her to compete in the individual championship at the Games, where Valieva took fourth place. At the same time, the IOC postponed the award ceremony following the results of the team tournament, where the figure skater won gold as part of the Russian team.
