Russia demands compensation for the costs of organizing the youth ice hockey World Cup

FHR will require IIHF to reimburse the costs of organizing the 2023 Youth World Championships

The executive director of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (FHR), Dmitry Kurbatov, said the organization of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) will demand that it reimburse the costs of hosting the 2023 World Youth Championship. His words are quoted by TASS.

“We are preparing a direct cost claim as this is common practice,” Kurbatov said. He stressed that Switzerland and Belarus, whose tournaments were canceled in 2020 and 2021 respectively, were compensated. At the same time, the FHR representative noted that the cost of building the arenas would not be reimbursed.

The IIHF suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in international competitions on February 28. The sanctions were imposed indefinitely. In addition, Russia will not host the World Youth Championships in Novosibirsk and Omsk in 2023.

The FHR later appealed the IIHF’s decision. The organization filed a complaint against the decision of the organization’s disciplinary committee, which also ordered the deprivation of Russia of the right to host the 2023 Youth World Cup.
