The Office of the Prosecutor General of Russia has announced its withdrawal from the International Association of Prosecutors

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Russia decided to withdraw from the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) due to double standards and non-compliance with the principle of impartiality in the situation of violation of citizens’ rights in the Donbass. This is what Russian Attorney General Igor Krasnov said in a letter to IAP Secretary General Khan Moraal, Lente.ru was told in the supervisory body.

“Today the world is confronted with a new reality. For the first time since World War II, it is due to a politically motivated, often artificially biased attitude towards a single social group of people united by Russian language and descent,” Krasnov said. He noted the humiliation and persecution of Russian speakers, including women and children, as well as calls for murder that were seen in the Western press. At the same time, the MAP does not respond to expressions of xenophobia and racism.

The organization has also been inactive for eight years “in connection with the massive crimes against humanity committed by the Ukrainian authorities against the civilian population of Donbass,” the Russian prosecutor general stressed. Based on this, he explained that “the Office of the Attorney General of Russia has no moral right to remain a member of the MAP.”

In addition, the Russian agency is terminating the cooperation agreement to ensure the activities of the IAP regional representative office in St. Petersburg from October 20, 2021.

The public prosecutor’s office has been a member of the association for 25 years.
