An Iron Age sandal has been discovered in Norway. About informs Live science.
It was originally discovered by a hiker at Horse Ice Spot in the Scandinavian Mountains. He contacted Secrets of the Ice Organization, who was studying artifacts preserved in the ice.
“He sent us the GPS coordinates and photos and left the find in the ice. Great job,” Espen Finstad said.
After archaeologists found the boat, they radiocarbon dated the shoes to around 300 AD. Other artifacts, such as textiles, also lay in the area, but these were much younger.
“This tells us that what appears to be a wild and desolate mountain landscape today was a prehistoric transportation route and was littered with human footprints,” the scientists said. Also, researchers state that sandals were made under the influence of Roman Empire fashion. This means that people passing through the Scandinavian mountains are in contact with the outside world.
Formerly British archaeologists discovered “Lines” of Stone Age people watching them in a night fire.
