A laboratory opened at Sirius University to study the physiology of athletes 15:12

Sirius University of Science and Technology has opened a computer sports laboratory to study the psychophysiological abilities and characteristics of cyber athletes. It is planned that the data obtained on the development of concentration, reaction speed and other skills will be used to train experts in the professions of the future. This was reported to socialbites.ca at NTU Sirius.

Laboratory, electroencelography, oculography, photoplethysmography, inertial motion sensors, etc. It is equipped with 40 eSports stations that can be connected to psychophysiological and functional diagnostic systems, including equipment for This gives scientists the opportunity to comprehensively assess the state of the subject’s body and its functional systems. The study is planned to be done on the example of the DotA2 game. The research includes analyzing the talents of esports athletes and the possibility of applying their esports skills in the civic field. Experts will examine the relationship between the player’s effectiveness in key events, such as attacking or besieging buildings, and the degree of development of cognitive functions.

“As part of this study, we will gather the most complete picture of the impact of esports on the body and understand how to use computer games as cognitive simulators,” said Denis Gusev, head of the University’s Interdisciplinary Resource Center for Sports Studies. “Sirius,” he told Gazeta.ru.

In the first phase, participants will undergo behavioral cognitive testing, and in the second phase, a team of five will play DotA2. It is planned to record EEG and eye movements during the game. Based on the results obtained, scientists will create a cognitive simulator that will not only evaluate the development of human abilities, but also create the most suitable training model.

The second decision-making exercise will also take place in DotA2. Experts believe it is possible to develop a training program for these skills by studying the player’s reactions. This will be useful in occupations where speed of decision making, quick reaction to a situation and sustained concentration are important. For example, such skills are required for nuclear power plant operators and unmanned urban transportation.

The scientists hope that the data collected will be useful for educating people in future professions that require a specific set of competencies.
