Persecuted for language, nationality and citizenship. How the situation of Russians abroad worsens Human rights activists reported that in 2022, the number of Russian rights violations in Western countries increased.

The Moscow Human Rights Bureau analyzed cases of violations of the rights of Russians abroad and came to disappointing conclusions: in 2022, there were significantly more cases of violations of the fundamental rights of citizens of the Russian Federation. About informs Referring to the report of TASS “Violation of the rights of citizens of the Russian Federation and citizens abroad in 2022”.

Bureau experts noted that the increasing trend of violations of rights by Russians in Western countries and their “satellites” has continued in recent years, but it has become more escalating in 2022.

“The persecution based on citizenship, language and nationality, which was isolated in the previous period, has become massive in the past year. Militant anti-Russian hostility has become a mainstream determining the domestic and foreign policies of Western states.

According to the estimates of the Moscow Bureau of Human Rights, the majority of violations of the rights of Russians abroad are explained in Western countries – there they were of a complex, systemic and extensive nature. Experts also directed Ukraine to its satellites.

The authors of the report emphasized that “in the context of the West’s struggle against Russia, actions against Russian citizens, their lives, freedoms, dignity, property, rights and freedoms are a separate front of aggression against Russian society.”

Experts see the increasing violations of Russian rights as a deliberate policy of the West to cause maximum harm to Russia. Therefore, such situations require an objective and impartial assessment. The authors of the document recommend using the full “arsenal of legal, political, economic and informational influencing methods” available.

As another piece of advice, human rights activists urge Russians to inform about the realities of the abuses. In particular, they are in favor of the maximum consideration of crimes committed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Ukrainian nationalists and mercenaries against Russian citizens in the Donbass, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions and other regions of Russia.

After the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, Russian citizens were repeatedly attacked in European countries. Most of the time, the aggressors were Ukrainian refugees and their citizens living in the EU for a long time. The reason for the attacks was Russian speech on the street, Russian car numbers, images or colors of the Russian flag on clothes.

In addition, cases of vandalism to objects connected with Russia have become more frequent in Western countries. Most often this happened in Europe and the Baltic States. In Latvia, unidentified persons spilled paint on a monument to the Red Army soldiers who liberated Riga from German troops. In Bulgaria, the same thing happened with the 11-meter statue “Alyosha”, a monument to the Soviet soldier-liberator.

In the spring, a memorial complex in Slovakia where thousands of Soviet soldiers are buried is painted in the colors of the Ukrainian flag. In Poland, the Institute of National Remembrance decided to liquidate all remaining Soviet monuments in the country.

Andrey Suzdaltsev, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of World Economy and World Politics at the Higher School of Economics, believes that it has already become a tradition for European political elites to treat Russians as enemies.

“As scientists, we have always noted that in the countries of the former socialist camp, anti-Russian hostility is the main state-forming ideology,” said Suzdaltsev.

In June, the Russian Foreign Ministry also it was report on the violation of the rights of citizens and compatriots abroad. Experts from the diplomatic department emphasized that in 2022 the situation in such cases “deteriorated many times over”.

The ministry reported on “the shocking brutality of all-out discrimination against Russians, including diplomats.” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs paid special attention to the widespread violations of rights of children with Russian citizenship or only Russian origin – humiliation by classmates, psychological pressure at schools with the connivance of teachers. and barriers to learning are created.

The wave of attacks on Russia’s diplomatic missions was considered a planned action by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs due to its large and organized structure. And they remembered the attack on Ambassador Sergei Andreev in Warsaw in May, during the laying of flowers at the cemetery where Soviet soldiers were buried.

Experts from the Moscow Human Rights Bureau presented a report in which they report that in 2022 the fundamental rights of Russians abroad are violated much more often than before. After the start of the SVO, such cases became widespread, and Russian hostility became a trend for Western countries. Human rights activists insist that all these facts, including international examples, be thoroughly investigated and evaluated.
