President Vladimir Putin 14 November signed Decree “On the award of state awards of the Russian Federation”. Among others, for the first time in the modern history of the country, the holders of the title “Mother Hero” are mentioned in it. It was given to two women. The first is Olga Dekhtyarenko, a kindergarten teacher from the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, raising ten children with her husband. The second was Medni Kadirova, the wife of Chechnya leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

“Mother Hero” is the highest title of the Russian Federation, established by the President in August 2022 together with the corresponding order. Awarded to Russian women who have given birth and raised ten or more children (must also be a citizen of the Russian Federation).
The title is awarded if the youngest child is one year old and the other children are alive. The decree on the award of the title states that children who died or disappeared as a result of terrorist attacks and emergencies while defending the country or performing military or civilian duties are also taken into account.
The title holder is awarded a special badge of distinction, an insignia worn on the left side of the chest above other state awards. The order itself is a 30 mm five-pointed star with the coat of arms of Russia in the center, framed by the inscription “MAIN-HERO”, made of gold with diamonds and enamel. The badge of the order is attached to a gilded block in the form of an arc, made in the colors of the Russian flag.
The title with the order is accompanied by a diploma and a one-time monetary incentive in the amount of 1 million rubles. The title was introduced by analogy with the same name already existing in the USSR. From 1944 to 1991, 431,000 women were awarded the prize. Visually, the order of the Soviet title of “Mother Hero” was different from the modern one, but the conditions for its award were almost the same (children adopted in the USSR were also taken into account). There was no money back then.
How many children do the Kadyrovs have?
Ramzan Kadyrov has known his wife Medni since her school days in the ancestral village of the leader of Chechnya, where she still carries Aidamirova’s maiden name. The exact year of their marriage is unknown. The exact number of children raised by them is also unknown.
