“He was off work that day,” his father, Mark, recalls. “Ben decided to ride a motorcycle to Portinax beach in northern Ibiza.” from Wiltshire (England), Mark Garland welcomes OPEN STATUS, events portal and the Prensa Ibérica investigation. “Storm Gloria was slowly subsiding, but the sea was still choppy, and when it got to Portinatx, Ben decided to film the big waves. Unfortunately, that decision led him to approach,” he complains, “and we think a rogue wave dragged him away.” The sea swallowed him.

In the latest video that Ben posted on his own networks, you can see how a big wave crashed into a rock on which he was standing, and the young man laughed nervously.

The alarm soon sounded. It was a classmate of Ben’s who opened it.. “I was gone at noon,” Mark recalls. night came and he didn’t come back. The captain of the boat he worked on reported to the 112 emergency service that his wife did not return. Thanks to social networks, they knew where to look. “I sent 3 or 4 stories on Instagram disappeared in the afternoon,” his father recalls.

“They were about the sea and the waves. The last video was big, it was a wave hitting the rock it was on. You can see the water in the short clip on your boots and Ben is heard giving a small nervous laugh.…then it’s over.”

Storm Gloria left 110 kilometers per hour winds in the Balearic Islands and a historic 14.2 meter wave on the island of Sa Dragonera.

The news reverberated that day: Storm Gloria left 110 kilometers per hour winds in the Balearic Islands and a historic 14.2 meter wave on the island of Sa Dragonera. Headlines reported the tragedy. It devastated Spain. I still did not give a sign. didn’t come

The location of their last posts was tracked. Bike found, dear Harley Davidson Sportster 1200 cc, parked on the same shore. “Yet we were hoping it was somewhere elseHe said that while walking towards the lighthouse he would slip, hurt himself and would not be able to walk.

Emergencies, Civil Guard, Marine Rescue. They all called. His family, led by Mark, attended. They arrived in Spain. The shock began. without news. Without a trace. Nothing was wearing Ben.

“On the third day of the search, the rescue team found him swimming in the sea with his jacket, documents and sunglasses in his pockets,” Mark recalls. “Day four, my son Jake, my daughter Leanne and I We visited the rocks where Ben is located. We did this to call my son’s helmet or phone when the sea calmed down and water levels dropped. I found your watch with a damaged strap just below where Ben was shooting. This was increasingly pointing to the fact that it had been dropped or swept away and was now lost there.” Water returned his belongings. He never gave me back.

“Authorities Spanish girls were amazing at finding him and I honestly think they did everything they could to find him.. They never lost their hope. It was painstaking and selfless work,” Mark says enthusiastically.

After three weeks on the island, Garlands was forced to leave. He describes it as the saddest journey he’s ever faced. “We had to go home … I live with a sense of loss and constant pain,” she complains. “assume maybe i will never find it. One of the hardest things. I always carry Ben in my heart. I miss him every hour, every second. I miss her smile, her voice, and the little adventures she had.”

“I fell in love with the sea”

Engineer by education; fun, adventurous but slow, logical. “She thought a lot about everything. Even when she made a snap decision, she did it sensibly,” her father smiles. He thought, valued and did: he drew a new life. Change.

“He was occasionally invited to Palma de Mallorca to work on a superyacht,” Mark recalls. “He had an annual route, Ibiza-Palma. He flew to Spain and worked on the yacht for 3 months.. He fell in love with the sailing community and the sea.”

He “came home” when his contract expired but was injured. “He decided he wanted to work in this industry, so he came back and began to wander the docks in search of work“He found a few odd jobs, but none of them were permanent, and he was somewhat discouraged until he was offered a permanent return to the first ship he worked on.”

“Ben loves his bikes, that’s his passion. He loved to ride and explore,” his father recalls. On loan from Mark Garland

“He had to complete a few courses in the UK before he started,” Mark recalls. “She passed all her exams. I remember on January 27, 2019, I took her to the airport to fly to Ibiza to begin the next chapter of her life.” I was happy.

driving test

Although he never left his family, he settled in Spain. “He was on the island for two years when he disappeared.” A close-knit group, the Garlands were in constant communication. “He came home for Christmas. He stayed in England to take his final exam. It was a driver’s license exam. On Saturday, before I flew to Ibiza, we had a celebratory dinner with the whole family. and unfortunately disappeared on the 21st. The envelope with the license is still in my kitchen.” Closed, intact. “I don’t dare open it.”

Rock

“It has been almost three years since that fateful day,” his father complains. Life is different now, admits Mark. “I miss the old me, the person I was before I disappeared. I’m afraid I’ll never be the same person again.” He thinks about the rock. And they return there as much as they can—which anyone can.

“I am my hero”, describe It sits and feels you. Feel like you are there in Ibiza. It feels good by the sea. Remember the “solidarity army” who gave their all to find him. “After almost three years, I know the search is clearly over.“, he complains, “but I know that during the routine patrols of the civil guard around the island, they are still looking for Ben.”

He talks about agents, islanders, and talks about Fani Tur: “He and his dog and friends wandered the beach looking for my son, and they never gave up until they had looked over the whole island.” Marilina can’t forget Ramon and her son Pau either. “They were a pillar for me, my strength, my go. For my family and friends. They kept us fed and cared for while we looked out,” Mark exclaims excitedly. “They keep doing this. Now I visit Ibiza every year to commemorate Ben and visit the rocks. I hold very close to my heart all the people who helped and supported me while I was there.”

I embraced life, his father sums up. “He improved everyone’s. He marked us all,” said his father, smiling affectionately. “When people suffer, others reach out and provide support. Ben did, but the difference is that when that moment passes, Ben is still there.. He always said, ‘As long as I’m with you, you’ll never be alone.

Mark imagines her reading, writing, “loved it”. She remembers listening to music, “often seen singing with the guitar.” He didn’t say goodbye.

“Added to my grief, I’m living with the loss of Ben’s older sister, Charlotte. She died of cancer on March 23 this year. She left without knowing what happened to her sister,” she complains. “I’m not just sorry. I feel so many different emotions that it is almost impossible to express in words.. But I have a family that needs me. Nothing can ease the pain of losing my beautiful children or living without them, but I will not give up. Losing my daughter was so traumatic and sad but I was prepared for it, we diagnosed it and I was able to let her rest, say goodbye so I can’t do that for Me.” she came to him. she waits to say goodbye. she hopes nobody forgets me.

The Garland family has paid many obeisances since the day Benjamin disappeared. A solidarity biker route stands out, an annual event called Ride To The Tide. This is a route from Trowbridge (where Ben comes from) to the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) in Poole, UK: “All proceeds raised go to Ben’s memory, as Spain does to others in the UK.” It’s awarded to the RNLI. We’ve managed to raise over £3,000 (about €3,500) for the RNLI from the two organizations we’ve run so far, and the event is growing every year.”
