In 2020 Ubisoft launched Immortals Fenyx Rising, an action adventure that quickly drew comparisons to Breath of the Wild in its exploration-heavy design. A prominent industry insider hinted that Ubisoft is not stepping away from the franchise and is already moving toward a follow up.

The news emerged during the Games Mess Decides podcast. The report described the next entry, at least for now, under a working title Oxygen, as more of a spin-off than a full sequel. The new setting is said to be inspired by Hawaiian Polynesian culture.

As with the original game, players will be able to select the gender of the protagonist, while a god-narrator will still provide commentary on the character’s actions. Visuals have been updated so the game keeps a cartoonish vibe but no longer mirrors Zelda as closely as before.

Concept art has already circulated, and the sequel remains in early development with a projected release around 2025.

Jeff Grubb’s informant also indicated that Ghost Recon Frontline had been canceled. Ubisoft recently confirmed the end of development for that battle royale title and disclosed delays for Avatar, along with additional project adjustments.

Note: industry chatter and internal previews continue to circulate as part of a broader reassessment of Ubisoft’s upcoming lineup.
