Thief Simulator 2 picks up after the events of the original game, letting players step into the shoes of a modern burglar. This sequel introduces fresh mechanics that weren’t present in the first installment. The guide below offers a comprehensive walkthrough of every story mission and shares practical tips to help players progress more efficiently.
Game tips
Veterans who played the first Thief Simulator will feel right at home as they advance through the sequel. The tips here focus on earning money quickly, leveling up, and addressing common questions about the game.
How to make money fast in the first place
There are numerous paths to wealth in Thief Simulator 2, all rooted in theft. In each house, players will encounter cash and valuables that can be sold to a buyer or held for collection through Blackbay orders. Items marked with a green dollar sign should generally be kept, ideally stored safely in the shelter’s safe. There is no need to move these items from the locker to the PC during this process.
When the time comes to complete item collections, send the necessary pieces to the buyer via Blackbay. Doing so yields higher rewards and grants experience that helps raise level progress.
Common thefts
After some exploration, returning to previously searched houses will reveal additional money and items you had found earlier.
Pickpocketing
One effective route to obtaining unique items is pickpocketing. At level 4, players unlock this skill and can swipe items from sleeping residents and passers-by alike.
Start stealing and keep the hand icon on the green line by pressing the left mouse button as needed.
Hacking laptops and smartphones
Locked laptops are common in private homes and offices. Upgrading the electronics skill is required to hack them, and this ability becomes available at level 12.
How to level up quickly
Finish the tutorial and follow the main story missions to reach level 4 rapidly. Afterward, players may hit leveling bottlenecks if they neglect to collect items for Blackbay collections.
Every loot item (except banknotes) yields experience. Returning to inspected houses once per day to collect items is essential; neglecting this step can block progress to the next story mission.
How to use an accomplice
To summon an accomplice, players must complete a story quest and free the thief from jail. Once freed, a new option called “Call an accomplice” will appear on the phone. The service carries a cost, but for large or numerous items, it can quickly justify the expense.
In the early stages, only a few action points are available:
- Lock picking mode: unlocks every lock you can open
- Carrying heavy objects: lifts and moves heavy items to the car
- Label: records the residents of nearby houses
- Stop chasing: removes one pursuing officer
Introduction
As story missions unfold, an unknown ally may reach out to offer guidance. The recommended approach is to first check cameras, then move quickly to the hallway or window. If delays occur, planning an exit becomes crucial and time-consuming.
Take items from the shed, grab a scrap, flashlight, and the exit key, then crouch out and head toward Madison Street.
How do you reach house no. 102?
The early missions function as tutorials. If the original Thief Simulator is new to a player, these tasks help build familiarity with the game’s flow. The mini-map highlights objectives with a yellow icon. Proceed to house 102 and enter the area by any means necessary. A crowbar can break the door, or players can jump a fence from a nearby hill.
Inside the abandoned house, all valuables and money can be found until the character reaches level two.
Education
Next, complete a few straightforward tasks:
- Sell loot at Joe’s Pawn Shop. The pawn shop sits on Madison Street, though goods can also be sold at the shelter
- Learn to use the tag. Open the inventory and visit the skills section. Acquire the “Use Mark” option.
Follow the on-screen marker and directions announced via the phone. Highlight the resident of house 103 (SKM), then enter scheduling mode by moving the cursor over the person and pressing RMB.
After finishing the task, get in the car and depart. It’s important to drive past the white line on the map.
Check the shelter computer. It can be used to purchase theft items (or do this via a nearby phone), perform various extra tasks to destroy objects, and more.
How to break various things in the 102nd house
After accepting an additional task, head to House 102 and use a crowbar to break various objects, which are marked for reference. Note that the police will arrive after the last item is destroyed. It’s wise not to sprint toward the car, as the chase will continue. The best hiding spots are under a bed or inside a backyard trash can.
How to break into house No. 103 and steal a drone
After completing this step, open the inventory and in the skills section enable the “Lock Picking” skill. On the phone, purchase a basic hacking kit. Level 1 lockpicking resembles familiar mechanics from fantasy games, though the master key cannot be broken open.
Return to the car and wait until 5:00 PM. The tenant leaves then the area can be entered through the gate to locate the device in the room. Inspecting the house for valuables adds an extra hour before the owner returns.
Once the drone is obtained, return home and buy a module via the computer to disable cameras. The module costs $300, and it is advisable to also upgrade battery capacity for the same price.
How to rob house No. 104 and return the box
Proceed to the specified address, reach the camera-pole, and deploy the drone (G key). Move the cursor over the camera and switch it off.
The residents are away from midnight to two in the morning. Park the car in the lot and wait, then break the grille or jump the fence; the door will still need to be forced open to re-enter.
The box is heavy and must be carried to the van. Open the trunk and load it inside. While the owners are away, the player can also collect a computer, peripherals, and other valuables.
Bring the box home and place it on the great room table. Use a knife to cut the tape and remove the contents. Inside is a small pouch that needs to be sent to the PC via Blackbay.
How to plant a plot in house 110?
The easiest approach is at night when residents are asleep. Hack the front door, creep into the bedroom, and place the bag. If the owner wakes up, they will flee quickly.
This is how you photograph the kitchen in house no. 105
Like prior tasks, this one is best done at night while the store owner sleeps. Break open the door behind the cash register (level 1) and head to the second floor.
Open the phone and select camera to take a photo. The quest completes automatically.
How to unlock the skill “Lock Picking (Level 2)” and purchase 3 master keys
To reach this, players must elevate their character to level five. This is done by repeating thefts and collecting items, including Blackbay-redeemable collections that grant experience.
Once level five is reached, unlock the lockpicking skill in the skills menu and buy at least three lockpicks on the PC or phone.
Next, practice lockpicking in the shelter. The mechanic is simple: press S and click LMB when you hear a click.
Acquire available information on area 116 via Robtips and prepare for the next story mission.
How to get out of jail and save the thief
First, visit the jail. It’s straightforward, but it’s suggested to park the car first. If the police spot a car on the road, load the last saved data. When encountered, choose “Going to Jail.”
In the prison, wait for the bald guard to move to the first floor, then open the bars for both yourself and the thief. To escape, search the meeting room on the first floor where two officers in caps patrol, and occasionally a bald officer joins. It’s recommended to first venture to the third floor to steal iMak (you’ve bought information about this item).
Return to the first floor and wait for the police to scatter. One officer may continue to patrol the meeting room, but simply enter, grab the key from the table, and follow an exit route (three exits exist here).
If desired, players can linger to find a solid SSD in the boss’s room or steal other valuable gear. Leaving the building completes the quest.
Work on the manual continues.
