Publisher CI Games and developer Hexworks have revealed a new dark fantasy title, The Lords of the Fallen. A breathtaking trailer premiered at Gamescom 2022, highlighting a highly ambitious vision for the franchise.

The game is being built on Unreal Engine 5 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Set more than a millennium after the events of the 2014 Lords of the Fallen, the narrative expands into a sprawling world with fresh lore and perilous quests.

According to the official description, it is a brand-new adventure scripted across a world five times larger than the original, inviting players to explore vast environments and interwoven histories across multiple realms.

Hexworks is steered by executive producer Saul Gascon and creative director Cezar Virtosu. Gascon has contributed to titles such as Dead by Daylight and Payday 2, while Virtosu is renowned for his work on Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Assassin’s Creed Origins. The studio comprises over 75 professionals dedicated to delivering a robust, interconnected experience.

The Lords of the Fallen is positioned as a spiritual successor that long-time fans have anticipated. The game promises a larger scope, featuring a sprawling, dual-world design that juxtaposes realms of the living with those of the dead. Players can journey through this universe solo or in cooperative play. The title aims for a darker, more demanding experience with Souls-like combat mechanics, reinforced RPG elements, and a deeply immersive storyline.

The game will offer a wide roster of NPCs for meaningful interactions, a diverse array of magical abilities capable of turning the tide in battle, cooperative play options, nine distinct character classes including a knight, a robber, and a student of fire, among others, and a robust character-creation system that enables players to forge a unique hero.

Release is tentatively scheduled for the coming year, with Steam already hosting a product page for pre-orders and information. Images and concept art associated with Lords of the Fallen 2 are being circulated within official channels and media previews, providing a glimpse into the evolving visual style and design direction.

Cult of the Lamb faced controversy surrounding its portrayal and reception, a topic discussed in gaming press and fan communities at the time of coverage.
