The organizers of The Game Awards in 2022 announced the top honor for the year, naming Elden Ring as the best game of 2022. For the Japanese studio FromSoftware, this marked a second Game of the Year tribute, following their 2019 win with Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Elden Ring also secured trophies for Best Role-Playing Game, Best Art Direction, and Best Director. While Elden Ring dominated in several categories, the award circuit saw God of War: Ragnarok gathering the most nominations. Santa Monica Studio earned six trophies, and Christopher Judge, who voices Kratos, was recognized as the Best Actor in a leading role for his performance.
Among indie titles, a standout was Strayed, a cat-themed platformer that captured attention as a defining indie entry of the year. For many players, Genshin Impact remained a top pick in terms of broad appeal and enduring popularity, reflecting the ongoing strength of live-service RPG experiences in the market.
Before the final nominations were revealed, the event featured an orchestral medley that celebrated the year’s standout musical scores, providing a dynamic backdrop as the industry reflected on its achievements and innovations.
