Guides for Dragon’s Dogma 2

How to start and complete the quest “The beggar’s story”

Players begin by unlocking the task after finishing the main story quest titled “The Throne of the Lord.” Once that milestone is reached, the beggar in Vernworth’s Shopping District becomes available for interaction during daytime hours.

When the conditions are met, proceed to the indicated area and locate the beggar at the fountain. A simple interaction and a payment of 100 gold will trigger the quest. After this exchange, the beggar’s tale unfolds and the quest is officially activated.

The objective then focuses on tracking the beggar’s movements to uncover the primary method he uses to earn his living. For players who prefer a faster route, a direct approach is to head to Walter’s Tavern, situated in the city’s slums.

If the beggar is not found at the inn, consult the map to identify the nearest house with a locked door. The premise is straightforward: the door remains locked, but the exterior reveals the beggar’s voice. Waiting a short while will reveal the man stepping out, allowing access to the room and the cloak inside.

The quest does not end with simply finding the clothes. The player must decide how to handle the garment, and this choice shapes the ending and the overall reward for completing the quest.

To whom should the beggar’s cloak be given?

At present, three distinct endings can be achieved depending on whom the cloak is given to. The following sections detail each outcome.

Give clothes to Albert

Returning the cloak to the beggar at Baldwin’s estate completes a double life for him and yields 5,000 gold. The player also earns 900 experience for this path, reinforcing the narrative of a hidden life that intersects with real wealth.

Give clothes to Selina

To pursue this ending, take the cloak to Selina in the tavern. After delivering the garment, wait until the following morning and return to Albert’s residence. There, the guard reveals that Selina killed him and then took her own life. This route provides 3,000 gold and 900 experience as the final tally.

Give clothes to Hilda

Seen as the most favorable ending by many players, this choice awards no money but enriches the story’s emotional arc. Visit Baldwin’s estate to inform Hilda of the events, then wait until morning and reunite with her. She rewards the player with three onyx stones, alongside 900 experience for completing the quest.
