Where to find a dog named Shkryab
The dog can be found at the starting area, not far from Extinct Village. From the main gate or the runic circle, climb up, then descend from the cliff. The dog awaits near Gomvik’s fallen body.
If this is the first time entering Extinct Village, be prepared to pass a few checks to avoid goblin combat. Otherwise a small skirmish might be necessary. There is no need to enter the city: just after the bridge and before the city gate, turn right (up) and follow the city walls. In a small clearing at the end, the pet waits.
How to tame a dog
In the right spot, several options present themselves:
- Reach out to pet the dog – the most sensible choice;
- Move around the dog to reach the corpse – the dog may think the owner is asleep and will guard him;
- Drive it away – the pet will growl and resist.
If the first option is chosen, several checks appear:
- [Drill] Get down on one knee and show that harm is not intended;
- [Attention] Look at the dog’s collar to learn the name, then indicate you will not harm;
- [Intimidation] Stop! If taming is the goal, this option should not be selected.
If the first option is chosen, a skill roll is required. A difficulty class of 10 applies unless the party has a character with the Course ability, which makes the roll easier.
After passing the test, Shkryab can be petted and summoned. To do this, select “Come on, Shkryab. Behind me.” Then choose “Give a hand so the dog remembers the smell and can follow to camp.” The dog will sniff the traveler first and then head toward the camp on its own.
How to play ball with Shryab
The next morning, after a rest, Shkryab reappears at the camp. An exclamation mark glows above him, making him easy to spot.
At first players can only pet the dog, but later they can play a game of ball with him. The ball can sometimes be bought from certain vendors, as reports indicate it spawns unpredictably. If the ball isn’t available from merchants, Shkryab will bring toys to the camp himself. To take the ball away, the party must succeed on Power, Dexterity, or Course checks.
Shkryab typically brings the ball to camp around the sixth or seventh rest period. An exclamation mark hovers above the dog at this point as well.
If any of the available checks succeed, the ball can be added to the hotbar and later tossed from the inventory. When the dog returns the ball, it returns to the backpack.
In addition, Shkryab has a knack for finding various items. During the next stop, an exclamation mark may appear above the pet; interact with the dog and roll a force check. Most of the time, the dog brings back junk bones, but sometimes it offers healing items or other potions.
