IGN has shared a video preview of the System Shock remake, a project first revealed back in 2015. In the clip, the protagonist navigates the starship environment, solving puzzles and engaging unsettling creatures along the way.
In the video, the creator describes the remake as aligning with modern survival horror. The atmosphere is highlighted by tight, shadowy corridors, dim lighting, and corpses scattered across the ship, all contributing to a tense, immersive mood. On the flip side, the reviewer notes inventory congestion as a potential nuisance, a common friction point in older survival titles that this remake seeks to streamline where possible.
The remake is built on Unreal Engine 4 and has been in development for roughly eight years. Beyond a complete visual overhaul, players can expect refined artificial intelligence and reworked core mechanics that aim to modernize the classic experience. According to the Steam page, the game was planned for release on PC platforms—Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store—as well as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with a target window in early 2023. Since then, updates have clarified that PC releases appeared first, followed by console versions later that year, as the team continued polishing the game for a wider audience.
