Sony has announced an expanded PlayStation Plus lineup offering three subscription tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Each tier builds on the previous one, delivering more games, benefits, and value for PlayStation fans across the United States and Canada.
Which subscriptions include:
- PlayStation Plus Essential: the classic PlayStation Plus experience with monthly free games, exclusive discounts, and online multiplayer access.
- PlayStation Plus Extra: everything in Essential plus a library of up to 400 downloadable titles spanning PS4 and PS5.
- PlayStation Plus Premium: all features from Essential and Extra plus a broad catalog of up to 340 additional games across PS3 via cloud streaming, PSOne, PS2, and PSP. It also includes access to the PlayStation Now streaming library and trial versions of select games with time limits.
What’s the price:
- PlayStation Plus Essential: 10 dollars per month, 25 dollars for three months, and 60 dollars for a year.
- PlayStation Plus Extra: 15 dollars per month, 40 dollars for three months, and 100 dollars for a year.
- PlayStation Plus Premium: 18 dollars per month, 50 dollars for three months, and 120 dollars for a year.
In markets where PlayStation Now is not available, the third tier is named PlayStation Plus Deluxe. Pricing for this variant is lower, though exact figures have not been disclosed yet.
The Extra and Premium plans include games sourced from both Sony internal studios and partner developers. At launch the library is expected to feature titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal. This catalog is designed to attract existing subscribers and recruit new ones by offering a broad mix of genres and new releases.
The rollout for the new subscription begins in June with a staggered global release. Asia will see it first, followed by North America and Europe. When the new tiers launch, PlayStation Now will transition to the new structure and will no longer operate as a standalone service. For NieR: Automata fans, a special promotional commemorative figure has been released to celebrate the update, reflecting Sony’s broader strategy to expand the PlayStation ecosystem beyond just games.
