Background and Preview: Sherlock Holmes The Awakened Remake
A remake of the game featuring Sherlock Holmes and Lovecraftian themes has been announced, accompanied by an initial set of screenshots. The Ukrainian developer Frogwares released a full trailer for Sherlock Holmes The Awakened, a fresh adventure that revisits the 2007 classic and reimagines it for modern audiences.
The Awakened blends Arthur Conan Doyle’s famed detective stories with H. P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos. The average Metacritic score for related entries sits around 72, reflecting a generally favorable reception among critics.
In the trailer, Holmes and Watson attempt to elude law enforcement. The pursuit appears to end abruptly when the sheriff halts the chase, suggesting the duo has pushed their luck too far and may not make it out alive.
The narrative is set a few years after the events of Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. Holmes and Watson remain roommates for the moment, but a new case will bring them back together and forge the legendary partnership seen at 221B Baker Street. The plot follows their search for cult members who worship an ancient sea creature.
Alongside the premiere, a Kickstarter fundraiser has begun to support development. The studio estimates a remaining goal of 70,000 euros to complete the project.
Based on information from Kickstarter, the release window was slated for February 2023. The project marks a notable return to a retro era for the Russian gaming scene, where demand for nostalgic titles like Tamagotchi and Tetris has surged.
