Fortnite isn’t just a battle royale. It also blends Lego-style sandbox play with survival elements and now features Rocket Racing—an arcade-style racing mode born from Rocket League-inspired vehicle physics and customization.
How to Win at Rocket Racing
Rocket Racing merges inventive car physics with familiar car builds and puts them on imaginative race tracks. Players must combine solid racing instincts with strong spatial awareness, using walls, ceilings, and precise drifts to gain the edge.
The core strategy centers on leveraging the environment and vehicle mobility. Flight is activated with the left mouse button to clear obstacles or reach higher sections of a track. Flipping off walls and ceilings is done by jumping and pressing the right mouse button, enabling quick transitions between surfaces in a single jump.
Outpacing rivals relies on timing the Shift key to trigger a “Rocket Skid,” which delivers a burst of acceleration right after a skid. Drifting contributes to an overall acceleration meter, engaged via the middle mouse button, with an additional boost upon re-pressing the same control after a brief delay.
If the boost is triggered at the fourth green light early in a race, a starting advantage is granted. The exact rate of acceleration depends on how long the boost key is held, so maintaining pressure can yield maximum speed boosts.
Customize Vehicles in Rocket Racing
Rocket Racing, like Lego Fortnite, includes cosmetic items drawn from Rocket League and the standard Fortnite catalog. Epic confirms that vehicle bodies such as Octane, Cyclone, Hunter 619, and the Lamborghini Huracan STO from Rocket League carry over to Rocket Racing, along with some wheels and decals. The primary body available at launch is the Octane, complemented by a core set of stickers that can be fully customized in the new locker area.
Body parts not included in the basic package can be bought in the in-game store, with the associated sticker kits included in the set.
Players who own Rocket League and have a linked Epic Games account will see purchased car bodies appear for free in the character’s locker, provided those items exist on their account.
Which tracks are available?
At present, there are 26 race tracks, with additional tracks arriving monthly. The mode also introduces three biomes drawn from the Fortnite ecosystem: Forest, Jungle, and Canyon.
New routes and environments are continuously added to keep the competition fresh for players chasing top times and higher rankings.
What is “Ranked Mode”
Beyond the standard arena where twelve players race across shared maps, a competitive Ranked mode tests a driver’s agility against three other opponents in four-player races.
Ranked progression increases the difficulty by cycling through progressively tougher tracks, with the number of laps varying by map size and typically ranging from three to five laps per race.
There are eight rank levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Champion, Unreal.
- Bronze.
- Silver.
- Gold.
- Platinum.
- Diamond.
- Elite.
- Champion.
- Unreal.
The Bronze through Diamond ranks each feature three stages to advance, while higher tiers compress progress into a single stage per level.
Upon reaching Unreal, a player remains at that peak rank for the duration of the Ranked season. Still, the top level also assigns a unique number indicating that player’s standing within Unreal, with ongoing success capable of climbing higher in the overall ladder.
Is it possible to gain Battle Pass experience in the new mode?
Rocket Racing introduces new quests that award experience usable across all modes, including Battle Royale. Tasks are organized into several sets:
The racing set grants cosmetic rewards for vehicles and characters; the zero season tasks supply experience toward the battle pass and extra body stickers; ranked-mode goals yield additional experience and parts like decals and wheels; daily tasks refresh each day for continuous gains.
