During the State of Play presentation, a fresh trailer unveiled the highly anticipated remake, underscoring that Resident Evil 4 is being developed for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The clip showcases gameplay across several distinct stages, giving fans a firsthand look at how the classic survival horror title is evolving with modern visuals and refined mechanics.
The official release window places the remake’s launch on March 24 this year, with all announced platforms arriving simultaneously. Built on the RE Engine, the game promises a visual upgrade that preserves the original atmosphere while delivering contemporary lighting, textures, and character models that pop on current hardware.
The story follows Leon S. Kennedy as he heads to a secluded Spanish village with a mission to rescue the President of the United States daughter who has gone missing. Upon arrival, Leon encounters the terrifying Los Iluminados sect, whose followers have undergone disturbing mutations. The remake revisits these encounters with expanded enemy designs and more dynamic encounters, heightening the tension and danger in the village and its surroundings.
Players can expect not only an updated visual presentation but also new features and refinements that complement the steady, strategic pace of the original. Among the enhancements, a broader roster of adversaries challenges players to adapt on the fly, while revised enemy AI and combat systems reward careful planning and precise execution. Additionally, the Mercenaries mode returns, offering a survival-focused arena where players aim to rack up high kill counts in a fast-paced scoring run, testing reflexes and resource management alike.
