Fame played a cruel trick on members of the Larian Studios team. When many subscribers followed voice actors, one actor appeared to have liked posts that were criticized as politically incorrect.
Frazer Blaxland, the voice of the tiefling blacksmith Dammon in Baldur’s Gate 3, was revealed to engage with groups that labeled some users as homophobic and transphobic. Some observers noted that he also liked posts supporting Israel. A subscriber who is a fan of Karlach’s friend posted a long thread showing a series of screenshots with such likes on his page.
“A thread listing all the bigoted accounts, posts, and tweets that Blaxland interacted with could not be a simple mistake,” one commenter wrote.
The controversy extended to Blaxland himself, who issued an apology on social media. The actor said he had unfollowed accounts that caused concern among fans.
“This was an important lesson about the importance of who I follow on social media. Before this, I did not think much about the follow button. Moving forward, I will be more aware of who I follow because it matters,” he stated.
However, many subscribers questioned the actor’s honesty and accused him of lying. Some even raised the issue in responses to a Larian Studios post.
“You might want to consider how your company’s inclusivity is reflected in the people you hire. I would not want anyone who engages with hateful content in my future projects,” wrote a user named Lex.
“Fire this person, we do not want to see him again,” commented another user.
There were also supporters who defended the voice actor.
“I laugh at the critics. Freedom of speech exists, if you don’t like it, ignore it. Blaxland’s work in BG3 is excellent, so why cancel him? People should mind their own business,” wrote a user named Grantovich.
Larian Studios has not issued a public response to the Fraser Blaxland situation.
Earlier, there were discussions about a broader wave of controversy in the western media landscape tied to actions by a consultancy that advises game studios on inclusivity in games. The topic even sparked attention from notable public figures in different circles.
Yes, time for a closer look at the complex dynamic between fan communities, studio decisions, and social media behavior.
