Developers behind Overwatch 2 have unveiled Kiriko alongside details for the first season, and Blizzard has confirmed a shift in how new characters are unlocked. New characters will now be revealed by progressing through the battle pass rather than being earned outright at a fixed level. This change places greater emphasis on ongoing player engagement and progression through seasonal content.
The battle passes offer free access, but the most sought-after rewards remain tucked deeper inside. In future seasons, Kiriko and other heroes are expected to unlock around level 55, with a total cap of 80 levels for progress through the season. Players also have an option to purchase a Premium pass, which grants all key rewards without waiting for them to unlock naturally.
The first season grants automatic access to two heroes, Sojourn and Queen of Junkertown, to all participants. Additionally, players who owned the original Overwatch receive Kiriko automatically. A crucial note: if a player misses the hero during a season, there are still pathways in other seasons to unlock them by completing various challenges.
The Premium Battle Pass expands the reward pool with an extra 60 items. Among these is a mythical skin that renders Genji as a cyber demon, along with multiple customization options that let players alter the hero’s appearance with distinct color schemes.
The inaugural season centers on a cyberpunk aesthetic and runs for 60 days. The second season is scheduled to begin on December 6. Looking ahead, Blizzard has signaled ongoing content expansion, including PvE elements that expand the lore and storytelling beyond traditional competitive play. A broader view of the game’s evolution shows Blizzard’s ongoing commitment to evolving the title with substantial seasonal content and narrative-driven experiences for players in North America and around the world.
