Cyberpunk 2077, the acclaimed title from the makers of The Witcher 3, is renowned for its stunning visuals. That level of fidelity often demands powerful hardware, and not every PC can sustain it. Yet gamers have discovered a path to boost performance without emptying their wallets. A modding project led by PotatoOfDoom1337 introduces AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 in action. The approach uses lower resolution frames and scales them up, saving precious GPU and CPU cycles. The result is a noticeably higher framerate with minimal, sometimes imperceptible, changes in image quality.

According to the mod author, testing on an Nvidia GTX 1080 with Cyberpunk 2077 running at 4K showed a jump from 22 frames per second to 45, effectively a 100 percent improvement. The visual fidelity remained largely intact, which is remarkable given the scale of the change. While the mod is actively evolving and not all features are fully wired up yet, it is already accessible to players who want to experiment. The author also notes that the integration is still partial, as some capabilities cannot yet be implemented through a mod alone. There is hope that the official patches from the game developers will eventually incorporate this technology in a more complete fashion.

It should be noted that Cyberpunk 2077 ships with AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 1.0 by default, but that version is notably less capable of delivering large FPS gains without noticeable quality loss. Nvidia DLSS 2.0 is available but generally restricted to owners of RTX 20-series and RTX 30-series cards. In contrast, the FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 mod offers potential performance benefits across a wider range of graphics hardware, making it appealing to players who want better frame rates without replacing hardware. The ongoing work aims to broaden compatibility and simplify setup, so more players can experience smoother gameplay while maintaining the game’s visual appeal.
