In our evaluation, MSI gaming accessories surfaced repeatedly, especially mice from the Clutch lineup. This review focuses on two models at once: the Clutch GM31 Lightweight wired mouse and the Clutch GM31 Lightweight Wireless edition.

Although the names are nearly identical, the boxed contents, weight, sensor type, and back-panel details set them apart. Here is a closer look at what changes.

With the wired version, the box includes only the mouse, a warranty card, and written instructions. The wireless version adds a docking station, a USB transmitter, and a cable for charging and data transfer.

The weight difference is modest and stems from the battery inside the wireless model and the magnetic dock adapter in the wireless kit. The wired version weighs 58 g (excluding the cable), while the wireless version weighs 73 g.

Appearance

MSI GM31 Lightweight mice favor a right-handed grip, with a matte black outer shell. The left and right panels, along with the scroll wheel surface, carry a consistent embossed texture that mirrors the design language across the line.

The mouse sits securely on the docking station, and its profile suits gamers who prefer a compact build. The wired model uses the PixArt PAW-3360 sensor with a maximum of 12000 DPI, while the wireless model uses the PAW-3311 sensor with the same top-end sensitivity.

Both variants sport six buttons and an RGB MSI logo top, with the top five buttons reprogrammable through MSI Center for different play styles or tasks.

The switches are OMROn with a rated life of around 60 million clicks, offering a quiet, precise feel on every press. The bottom carries identical Teflon feet with a smooth, unidirectional surface; the wireless version features a slightly larger central foot around the sensor.

Both versions include a DPI toggle and a wireless mode switch for quick changes on the fly.

The central Teflon foot on the wireless model is noticeably larger, contributing to smoother glide across the mat.

Clutch GM31 Lightweight Wireless also supports the two-meter MSI FriXionFree cable, which minimizes drag and does not interfere with movement. The wired variant uses the same cable design in its setup.

When portability matters, the USB receiver can be tucked into the same center slot for easy travel.

The GM31 Wireless includes a pink connector detail that stands out in the build. The docking station features rubber feet to keep the setup steady, and attaching the mouse to the charger is straightforward.

MSI notes a full charge can deliver up to 110 hours of use. In a five-day work period, a test run showed about 70% battery usage. Quick top-ups are possible: ten minutes on the dock can yield roughly seven hours of play time.

Software

Setting up the mice happens through the MSI Center app, which allows profiles tailored to various scenarios. Users can adjust sensor sensitivity, brightness, and backlight modes, and reassign button actions or record macros. The devices can store up to three profiles in their internal memory.

User experience

A few sessions were spent testing both Clutch GM31 Lightweight models in competitive shooter scenarios, alternating between wired and wireless variants. The PAW-3360 and PAW-3311 sensors proved to be evenly matched in performance, resisting disruption during sharp, rapid movements. Both forms performed impressively in fast-paced gaming and everyday tasks.

Note that the Clutch GM31 Lightweight is compact in form and best suited for smaller hands. Larger-handed users may find the grip a touch snug and might need to adapt their hold for comfort.

Results and prices

Both MSI GM31 Lightweight and MSI GM31 Lightweight Wireless deliver reliable sensors, durable switches, and long gaming life. They offer quiet, light, well-built experiences without extraneous clicking or slack.

Their practical design and ability to adapt through software make them strong choices for gamers who value responsiveness and comfort in equal measure.
