The Rescue Room serves as both a helpful reference and a rich hub of resources and buffs. This guide breaks down every feature and function in detail to help players maximize their experience in Hogwarts Legacy.
How to open a rescue room
The secret room becomes available through the story after completing the “Rescue Room” quest. The main entrance is inside Hogwarts, in the corridor toward the astronomy room. For a quicker route, players can use the Spit with a flying flame, known as the Chamber of Demands, located in the Secret Rooms section.
To place objects there, moonstones must be spent. Moonstones can be found in the open world or purchased from wandering merchants. Fully equipping the rescue room requires a substantial amount of crystals, so players should not overlook their collection. A single vein hit yields several fragments that wind up in the backpack quickly.
Breeding animals (vivarium)
The help room includes four extra rooms designed for animal care. Up to 12 creatures from four species can be housed in each room. A separate guide exists to help players locate all creatures. There is no biome restriction, so the rocky beach can safely host toads as well.
Every 25 minutes, animals can be fed and petted to obtain rare resources. The Mooncalf and the Chatterer yield five resources each, while the other animals offer three items apiece. These items can’t be sold, but they are valuable for strengthening and upgrading clothing. Reducing the number of activities by placing creatures in each biome’s food area keeps animals well fed and saves 15 minutes on a round of resource collection.
Breeding animals is also a way to earn in-game money. Offspring and extra captured creatures can be sold in Hogsmeade at Beak and Tuft after completing the quest titled “The Offspring of Death Itself.” Each animal costs 120 gold coins. There is an achievement called “That’s the Nature of Creatures,” which requires displaying every animal. Multiple pens can be placed within a biome, but stacking them too densely is not practical. As the story progresses, breeders can collect a full set of creatures before the credits roll.
How to grow plants
Planting begins with buying seeds in Hogsmeade. A single seed bag covers the entire game. There are eight plants in total, with three of them tied to battle-related effects:
- Seaweed. Grows only in a large pot and takes 15 minutes to mature. It contributes to a Focus drink.
- Sweet Mallow. Each jar is sufficient and necessary for Merlin trials (95 total). It ripens every 10 minutes.
- Star Anise. Grows in any pot in 10 minutes. Leaves are useful for healing potions such as mountain ash broth.
- Carrot. Requires a medium or large pot and takes 12 minutes. Part of the Thunder Drink recipe.
- Tracks. Can grow in any pot size, spawning every 10 minutes. Used to brew an invisibility potion.
- Mandrake. Fits any pot and can be harvested every 10 minutes. It stuns enemies in a wide radius.
- Poisonous Tentacle. Grows only in a large pot and ripens in 15 minutes. Creates a poison dome that targets the nearest foe.
- Chinese Cabbage. Requires a medium or large pot and 12 minutes of playing time. With fertilizer talent, summoning two embers is possible, increasing damage against enemies. Runes enhance its effectiveness.
The size of the pot matters: smaller pots allow more plants per stand. The auxiliary room can host a stand for five small pots, three medium pots, or two large pots. In total, seven stands can be arranged with the required number of pots as they are added up.
Each stand offers four different designs, but visuals do not alter functionality. The Help Room provides ample space, so even without perfect organization, everything can fit. Sorting plants more compactly saves time during resource gathering.
How to brew potions
Plants gathered from the garden can be brewed into potions that aid in battle. This mechanic is essential for diversifying combat in Hogwarts Legacy. Each potion has its own recipe and preparation time, and inventory capacity is limited. Players can carry up to 20 Rowan brews and 12 other potions.
Up to seven Potion Stands can be placed in the Help Room. The stands are not automated; each potion must be brewed manually. The largest stand can produce up to three potions simultaneously.
Six distinct potions are available in the game:
- Mountain Ash Broth – 15 seconds. Requires 1 Murlocomle Juice and 1 Star Anise Leaf. Restores health.
- Drink from Edurus – 30 seconds. Requires 1 peplumba egg and 1 mongrel fur. Grants stone skin protection.
- Drink from Maxim – 30 seconds. Requires 1 Leech Juice and 1 Spider Tooth. Boosts spell damage temporarily.
- Invisibility Potion – 1 minute. Requires 1 Jumping Mushroom Hat, 1 Knotweed Shoot, and 1 Trollbooger. Grants temporary invisibility for quick exits from combat.
- Focus Drink – 1 minute. Combines lacewing, kelp stalk, and artichoke tongue to dramatically reduce cooldowns for all spells.
- Thunder Drink – 1 minute 30 seconds. Requires leech juice, root fruit, and stench of the dead. Creates a damaging thundercloud that stuns nearby foes.
Potions can be mixed and used strategically. In long battles, they boost confidence and reduce restarts.
How to improve equipment
Legendary gear can be upgraded up to three times for a significant stat boost. Upgrades rely on resources earned in the vivarium, though vendors in the open world sometimes offer necessary items for quick progress.
To upgrade, an enchanted loom is used. Selecting clothing opens the upgrade window, and worn items are highlighted with a blue marker. Upgrades require various materials of differing rarity depending on the desired trim level.
How to add runes to legendary gear
Runes represent a subtle yet powerful system. Up to three runes can be installed on each piece of gear, enhancing spell power or resistance to specific damage. After unlocking all runes, choosing level-3 runes aligned with play style is often optimal, but it’s not necessary to populate a single spell with every rune. Five identical traits can reliably clear many foes with a single wand wave.
Defensive runes are not worth prioritizing on higher difficulties. The upgrade window is on the same loom; pressing the F key accesses it for the chosen garment.
Experimenting can be rewarding. Upgrading garments to boost Chinese cabbage damage, for example, can result in substantial damage output that clears arenas without relying on combat spells.
Other useful buildings in the help room
Jumping pots – Create a random drink every 12 minutes. A maximum of three can be placed.
