Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed invites players to team up with friends and others for ghost-busting action. This guide explains cross-platform capabilities, how to join friends, and how to play together smoothly across different devices.
Is there cross-platform play in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed and how to manage it in-game
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed supports players from multiple platforms to join forces in the same sessions. This cross-play option is turned on by default to encourage shared experiences, but if a user wants to disable it, the following steps will help:
- Open the Options menu.
- Navigate to Game Process.
- Find the setting labeled Allow matchmaking from all platforms and switch it to OFF.
Disabling cross-play can be useful when players prefer to team up with people on the same platform or when aiming to manage matchmaking performance. By configuring this feature, players control who can be matched with them during a session.
How to join a friend or invite someone to play
To invite a friend, start a game, proceed to the fire station, and use the hotkey Shift+F3 on PC via the Epic Games Store. An additional menu labeled Friends appears, allowing you to invite a teammate or join the session yourself. This streamlined prompt makes it easy to rally allies for cooperative play.
Click on a player who is online and you will see a window offering two actions:
- Participate to join the ongoing session with that player.
- Invite to extend the invitation to your own friends or teammates.
Note that you can connect with friends without explicitly sending a new invite if they are in the same lobby and currently not on a story mission. In that scenario, joining a friend can be as simple as selecting them from the roster and entering the game together.
In addition, there is the option to connect with any player who is in the lobby, provided one of the five participants is controlled by a bot. When connected, you substitute the bot-controlled character with your own in the squad, which helps keep the team balanced and ready for action.
Co-op match not starting or failing to join another player
There are several reasons why co-op sessions may fail to start or players may not be able to join friends. Common issues include the following:
- The player you want to join has not finished the tutorial missions yet, which blocks access to certain multiplayer features.
- The target lobby is currently engaged in a story mission, temporarily preventing new entrants.
- The lobby you want to join has reached capacity or is otherwise full.
Story missions periodically unlock at the fire station and cannot be skipped or cancelled. To play with friends again, players should complete parts of the storyline as required. When the on-screen message in the top right corner says Catch ghosts and explore their world, that indicates multiplayer readiness and a chance to team up again.
If you attempt to join a player who is already in a match with no open seats and no bot characters, the connection may fail. In that situation, waiting for the current match to finish is the practical step to take to reattempt joining.
Can players connect with someone on a different platform? At this time the game does not support cross-platform voice or cross-platform lobby joining beyond your own platform’s friends. Players should assemble teams with friends who are on the same platform for the most seamless experience.
Turn voice chat on and off
Voice communication is built into the game, eliminating the need for third-party apps during play. The voice chat is enabled by default. To speak, press the key T. If you want to mute all voices, open the Options menu, go to audio, and select Mute all players. This stops in-game voices from others and helps tailor the sound mix to your preference.
Within the same audio settings you can tune individual player volume and adjust the in-game radio mode to suit the session style, whether a casual playthrough or a more focused squad operation.
