Update 3.1 for Genshin Impact stands apart from previous patches. September marks the game’s birthday, and developers plan special celebrations for fans. This guide compiles all confirmed details about the upcoming patch, including new characters, locations, dungeons, bosses, and weapons.

Remark: As development continues, the design and content may still shift. The information presented here reflects current rumors and expectations.

When will update 3.1 be released in Genshin Impact?

According to the latest information, Patch 3.1 is scheduled for September 28, 2022. Fans can anticipate new characters, missions, territories, and what could be one of the most significant events in the game’s history.

What new locations

New areas will expand the world of Sumeru with a desert region that brings fresh environments to explore. The desert is divided into three major zones: Leeward Erosion, Overwind Erosion, and the Colonnade of Sand Plains. Screens and maps suggest many ruins and mysterious structures, including the Tomb of the Scarlet King, which appears central to the story. A new dungeon can be found in the northwest, with others expected to follow.

Some new banners and characters

There are two banners planned with staggered release. The first banner is expected to feature Kandakia, a four-star character, alongside Saino, a five-star, and a repeat of Venti. The second banner introduces Nila, a five-star, with a repeat of Albedo.

Details about the new characters are scarce. Saino is described as a mobile spear user and alchemist affiliated with the Sumeru Academy, holding a high rank as a general. Reports suggest a strong elemental infusion related to Electro with continued development.

Nilu is a dancer by profession. Her weapon is a one-handed sword and her element is Hydro. She is noted for frequent Hydro infusions and the ability to place debuffs on enemies.

Kandakia wields a spear and carries Hydro. Little is known about her backstory. In combat, Kandakia can purge foes, heal allies, and weaken or slow enemies, with a possible shield-related skill.

A recent developer stream announced that Collei can be recruited for free in the upcoming patch by completing the fourth floor of the Twisted Abyss. Players who take part in the Children’s Tale event and finish the Forsaken Toy quest before September 28, 2022, still have a window to include this character.

Which new weapon?

Five-star weapons:

  • Spear Staff of Scarlet Sands
  • Two-handed sword Key of Hajj-nisut

Four-star weapons:

  • Wandering Star catalyst
  • One-handed sword Moonlight of Xyphos
  • Two-handed sword Mahaira Aquamarine

For the main event of the Song of Cups patch, another weapon is available: the Spear of the Message of the Winds.

What are the new events?

The central event of the update is Song of Cups, a celebration of the anniversary with gifts including 1600 Source Stones, a companion bird, and a Klee Bomb. An event with daily login rewards is also planned.

Song of Cups describes a harvest festival in Mondstadt. The festivities feature a wine fair and tasting of rare varieties, with the fair likely near Cider Lake. Residents of Mondstadt are expected to attend, and players can meet Collei, Yae Miko, and Toma. There will also be an opportunity to learn more about Razor and his meeting with Lisa.

The Star Seeker’s Journey tasks players with using a tool named Wisdom of Banu to collect six future stars in the forest. The reward includes Bronze Stones, and solving puzzles near each star yields additional prizes. The tool resembles Ayesha’s Prospector from a prior event.

Hyakunin Ikki returns as a repeat event, inviting players to form linked squads and fight in the arena. Higher scores bring greater rewards.

Winddriver is a timed race using wind coins, playable in co-op. Tracks feature Wind Interceptors and strategic devices that aid players who set them up correctly to overcome routes more easily.

What are the new bosses?

Two world bosses are confirmed: Semi-Eternal Control Matrix and Dragon of Eternal Calamity. The Matrix is expected to support the rise of Candace, while the Dragon aligns with Nilu’s storyline. The Matrix intermittently launches parts and gains damage resistance; defeating its components exposes a core that must be attacked with Electro and Dendro to trigger a Stimulation reaction for a reward called Light Guide Tetrahedron. The Dragon attacks from air and ground, can increase resistance, and absorbs the damage type used against it. Battling its cores is key, and rewards include Eternal Mechanism.

What new dungeons

Details on dungeons are not fully revealed yet. Rumors point to five new dungeons with name changes recent in scope. The working list includes Hajj Nisut Hall, Dining Room, Great Hall of Truths, Hall of the Duat, and Sachem Hall.

What will be the plot and new quests?

Two Archon quests were revealed: Act 3, Dreams, Emptiness, Deception, and Act 4, King Deshret and the Three Wise Men. Saino and Neela are expected to play significant roles, with reports suggesting the player helps Saino uncover a mystery that pits a close ally against him. Neela is developing within a dancing troupe whose leader opposes her; the player may intervene to protect the troupe. The broader plot centers on the possible resurrection of the Scarlet King. Followers believe the Dendro Archon killed their master and fear a ritual sacrifice near the pyramid. The player learns that the Academy is tied to the turmoil, promising twists, betrayals, and intrigue as the journey unfolds.
