In an interview with Comicbook, Ed Boon, the creative director at NetherRealm Studios, shared a long-held dream project he would pursue if given the chance.

The concept is a crossover fighting game pitting Marvel against DC, letting iconic heroes from these two ultra-popular universes clash in epic showdowns.

He explained that NetherRealm has created several titles featuring DC characters. If one recalls childhood fantasies, questions like “Who wins in a fight, Mighty Mouse or Superman?” naturally arise because the two heroes belong to separate universes. A part of the studio still scratches at that idea. For Boon, seeing Spider-Man team up with Batman in a single game would be the pinnacle, yet he acknowledges the real-world hurdles that would need to be overcome.

Earlier this year Boon conducted a survey to gauge NetherRealm fans on which project they would most like to see. The results placed the Marvel vs. DC concept ahead of other new installments, highlighting strong interest in cross-universe battles among the studio’s community.

Despite the enthusiasm, Boon is candid about the practical challenges involved in merging Marvel and DC representations. He notes that while collaborations of this kind have occurred in comics and other media, bringing them into a single, balanced fighting game would require navigating a host of licensing, gameplay, and creative considerations.

Meanwhile, NetherRealm remains focused on Mortal Kombat 1, which is slated for release on September 19 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. In a separate development, fans found a notable bug or easter egg connected to a 90s legacy within the MK1 universe, drawing attention from players and media alike.

⛏ Vampire Survivors received a cooperative update for up to four players, expanding team play and strategy options. This upgrade demonstrates how developers continually enrich their games with fresh modes and community-driven content.
