Diablo 4 developers hosted a stream where they unveiled upcoming fortress mechanics that will debut in the next chapter. The reveal gives fans a glimpse of how Sanctuary evolves as players advance through the campaign and explore more of the world.
Fortresses are expansive zones that players can clear solo or with a group. In return, they earn experience points and loot of high quality. Each fortress also reshapes the local map: the once-quiet settlements of Sanctuary are reclaimed, and new communities take root on the liberated land.
The core idea behind these fortresses bears a striking resemblance to a mechanic found in The Witcher 3. In that game, players discovered abandoned settlements that could later be populated by farmers, merchants, and other NPCs as the world changed in response to player actions.
One fortress sequence is highlighted at 1:06:50 in the gameplay footage.
Earlier, Blizzard shared the system requirements for Diablo 4. The title is engineered to run even on older hardware, underscoring accessibility for a broad player base across North America and beyond.
Diablo 4 launches on June 6 for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. The game targets a diverse audience across Canada and the United States, offering a shared world experience with dynamic fortress sieges and evolving towns that respond to player progress.
