How to find wood
In Bellwright, gathering resources is essential to survival. Wood tops the list for building a personal hut and settler tents. Early on, players have limited options since they start without weapons or tools like an ax or a pickaxe.
But there’s no need to panic. Sticks can be collected directly from the open world. Look under large trees, pick up the fallen branches, and add them to the backpack. The starting forest near the village of Herndin is rich with opportunities, offering plenty of material to sustain the early stages of the game.
Another solid route is cutting down young trees. This requires an ax, so ground debris must be gathered first to craft the tool.
How to make an axe
Crafting an ax in Bellwright is straightforward and can be done from the inventory. To forge this tool, players need 6 wood and 2 stone. Branches are plentiful as described above, and ordinary stones appear in similar locations, often on higher ground where they are visible on the surface.
Once enough wood and stones are collected, the axe can be created:
- Open the inventory with the I key.
- Find Simple axe in the Fast production section of the backpack interface.
- Hover over the ax icon and hold the left mouse button to craft it.
- When finished, the tool is added to the backpack.
Where to find flax
Linen is a highly useful resource, and it becomes even more valuable when collected consistently. As noted in the general game guide, accumulate flax along with similar plants and store them at the base. Flax plants resemble small blue flowers, and they are easier to locate away from dense forests. Fields, meadows, and other open areas are ideal spots for gathering flax.
The bulk of flax can be found in the fields southwest of the village of Herndin. This area is excellent for starting a base for several reasons. It sits near a jungle belt perfect for wood, flax and sage grow in abundance, and its proximity to the village shortens travel time for initial quests, making it a practical choice for newcomers to the game.
How to build a personal hut
Creating a personal hut requires 10 units of wood and 6 units of flax. Open the build menu by pressing the B key, navigate to Manage, select Personal Shed, and press F to place a holographic projection of the hut. When the required resources are in place, the hut becomes fully built.
In the future, it is possible to upgrade the hut to the Village Hall and Town Hall through the research table, though this process demands time and effort.
