Which difficulty to choose

Three difficulty levels are available: Narrative, Medium and Hard. For first‑time players, the Narrative setting is recommended. It won’t trivialize the experience, as Amicia still must hide, move carefully, and watch for threats. Enemies react faster over time, and players will encounter more materials to upgrade equipment as they progress.

Which passing style to choose

Amicia’s abilities hinge on the chosen approach. There are three skill lines:

  • caution;
  • Aggression;
  • Amendment.

If stealth and avoiding unnecessary kills appeal, starting with stealth is wise. The early chapters feature fewer opponents, making it easy to rack up points. Mid‑game, switching to stealth becomes more challenging if a player has already committed to aggression.

What to do if you are noticed?

If a guard notices the player and killing isn’t desirable or possible, there are several options. The simplest is to maneuver around the threat. New locations often let Amicia slip away like a hidden predator. In most cases, a wary defender can be bypassed.

Another tactic is to throw a special powder at the soldier, which usually extinguishes the torch and blinds the guard briefly, enabling a safe retreat. A third option is useful when extinguishing the fire isn’t worth it. For instance, if a soldier is surrounded by rats, the powder would be wasted on him. In that case, tossing resin at the torch makes the flame blindingly bright and disrupts the guard’s line of sight.

What to upgrade in equipment?

There isn’t a universal recipe, but experience suggests starting with the Tools. This branch unlocks repairs without relying on distant workbenches and also makes it possible to upgrade items and reclaim extra materials from recycled gear.

Improving the crossbow early is beneficial, especially if stealth isn’t the sole tactic. Bolts may be scarce, but a well‑stocked quiver helps. Upgrading Tools enables recycling surplus bolts. Without that, progression can feel slower.

On the final tier of crossbow upgrades, players gain a larger bolt capacity and the ability to recover bolts from defeated enemies, which makes stealth less essential going forward.

Where to find tools, materials and resources

Loot generally rests in chests. Pots, crossbow bolts and knives can appear around the levels but are less common. Chests fall into three types: regular boxes, standard chests and gold secret chests.

Regular boxes are plentiful and hold resources for crafting ammunition. Chests are often tucked in hard‑to‑reach or dangerous spots and contain materials for improvements, sometimes even items like pots. Gold secret chests are rare, with roughly a handful per game, and they hold important upgrade materials and tools.

What to do with a knife?

Knives sometimes appear as a resource—capable of quick eliminations or defense. They are valuable and relatively scarce, also serving as the sole means to open certain locked workbenches. They differ from ordinary benches by containing extra resources that players can collect.

Is it possible to kill?

Despite the moral tension and the inner conflict Amicia faces, players can eliminate soldiers as needed. Doing so does not alter the ending, but it does influence the skill tree progression.

How to use Hugo’s skills

Hugo’s echolocation and control of a rat swarm are powerful, yet they stress the boy. If overused, a massive swarm can overwhelm him and end in a fatal moment. Use your brother’s abilities sparingly, reserving them for extreme situations.
