looking to the future

Zynga has long been a leader under Take-Two Interactive, and recent moves signal a renewed focus on global development. Akshay Bharadwaj, who previously served as vice president and general manager of Zynga India, joins the Barcelona development studio as director. Bharadwaj brings extensive industry experience, having overseen multiple Zynga portfolio products and played a key role in assembling teams that create new games for the world market. His leadership is expected to shape the studio’s approach to new mobile titles and international collaborations as the company expands its footprint in Europe and beyond.

In the near term, Bharadwaj will apply decades of business management and product development expertise to Socialpoint, the Spanish developer now under the Zynga umbrella. His background spans video games, digital learning, consumer internet services, and corporate internationalization. Under his direction, Socialpoint intends to unveil a new mobile game in Take-Two’s fiscal year 2024, signaling a push toward broader mobile reach and cross-border distribution while leveraging Socialpoint’s established portfolio.

Yaron Leyvand, Zynga vice president of gaming, has affirmed Bharadwaj’s proven track record in building high-performing teams and cultivating a positive workplace culture. Leyvand notes Bharadwaj’s successful stewardship of the FarmVille franchise and his commitment to maintaining strong values and collaboration across the organization.

A label with many families

Socialpoint joined the Zynga family after Take-Two Interactive Software acquired Zynga in 2017. The North American publisher behind Rockstar Games and 2K purchased the Spanish developer’s assets for about 232.5 million euros, or roughly 250 million dollars at the time. Today, Socialpoint employs around 300 people and is known for hit titles such as Dragon City, Monster Legends, and Two Dots, which have collectively amassed more than 200 million downloads. These games are available across major platforms including the App Store, Google Play, Amazon App Store, Huawei App Gallery, and Microsoft Store. These distribution channels reflect the company’s ongoing strategy to reach players worldwide, including audiences in Canada and the United States, while maintaining a focus on engaging, long-term experiences for mobile gamers.
