WhatsApp has introduced a way to send higher quality videos through a newer version of the app, a development reported by the WABetaInfo portal. The change appeared in the beta build for Android, labeled 2.24.7.17, and some testers now see a new option under Data & storage called Media download quality in the messaging settings.

This setting gives users a choice between standard and HD video quality when sending. Selecting standard quality results in strong compression, which reduces data usage and speeds up delivery to the recipient. The trade-off is noticeably lower video fidelity compared with the original file. Choosing HD quality increases the file size—potentially up to six times larger—and can slow down the sending process due to higher bandwidth requirements.

WhatsApp notes that even with HD quality, the video is still compressed, and the original, pristine look will not be perfectly preserved. For those who need the video in its truly original form, sending it as a document remains the recommended method. At present, the feature is limited to a subset of beta testers, and there is no public timeline for a wider rollout to all users.

As a related development, reports have circulated about Telegram offering a feature to disable built-in ads on major channels, highlighting ongoing discussions about user experience and monetization in large messaging platforms.
