WhatsApp developers have introduced a feature that lets users revise the captions attached to media placed within a conversation. This update was first highlighted by the WABetaInfo portal, which tracks new capabilities in the app.
Previously, the platform allowed editing of text messages after sending. Yet captions on photos, videos, or GIFs could not be corrected once sent. The new capability extends the same editing flexibility to media captions, now rolling out to WhatsApp users on Android and iOS.
The rollout is being rolled out in stages, with the expectation that all users will eventually gain access to the feature as it becomes available to their accounts.
To modify the text of a caption on a previously sent media item, users must press and hold the message and select the Edit option. There are limitations: edits can only be made within 15 minutes of sending the message, and changes can only be made from the device that originally sent the media. When a caption is edited, recipients are notified of the alteration to maintain transparency in the conversation.
There has been no public confirmation yet about the availability of this capability in the WhatsApp desktop client for now.
In related news, WhatsApp has previously experimented with sending photos in higher definition quality in certain contexts, reflecting ongoing improvements to media handling within the app.
