The Apple Vision Pro Mixed Reality Headset uses displays that do not support ProMotion technology, according to Macworld. ProMotion refers to an adaptive refresh rate system that lets screens adjust from very low to very high frequencies. In many recent iPhone models, this technology enables refresh rates from 1 Hz up to 120 Hz, which directly influences how smooth animations appear on the screen.

Macworld notes that the Vision Pro panels deliver ultra sharp images due to high pixel density, but they do not offer the highest visible refresh rates found in other headsets. Apple itself recommends watching videos with the headset at 24 frames per second, a standard for cinematic playback. In practice, displays around 96 Hz are commonly used when playing such content, providing a balance between smooth motion and power consumption.

Compared with other headsets, the Vision Pro appears to lag behind in refresh rate. Meta Quest 3, for instance, ships with displays at 120 Hz, while PlayStation VR 2 already operates with similar higher refresh capabilities. The Valve Index also delivers a higher refresh rate of 144 Hz, which translates to noticeably smoother motion during fast-paced scenes and gaming.

Note that prior coverage mentioned the Vision Pro in a controversial context via a different publication. That perspective does not reflect the current discussion focused on display technology and user experience.
