Video Game Gifts Rise as Top Holiday Choice in US and Canada

Video games and related products and services remain among the most sought-after Christmas gifts for children and teens in the United States, according to a study by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). The top gift category reported was a subscription, as highlighted by Game Industry.

The survey engaged more than a thousand participants aged 10 to 17. Among them, 72% expressed a desire to receive gifts in this category, with digital subscriptions to gaming services (39%) and game consoles (38%) leading the demand. Only 22% preferred physical copies of games for the holiday season.

Adults also show strong interest in video game gifts. More than 500 adult respondents indicated a willingness to purchase such items, with 57% planning to take advantage of this gifting option and 33% specifically noting video games as a potential gift choice.

Gaming-related gifts have become particularly popular among parents, ranking highly after monetary gifts, gift cards, technology and electronics, and books.

There were earlier reports suggesting that the Sony PlayStation division could face closure due to bankruptcy considerations.
