An updated snapshot of Steam user hardware configurations was released in July 2024, offering a clearer view of what gamers are using across the platform.
The report confirms the GeForce RTX 3060 remains the most popular graphics card, found in roughly 5.88% of PCs. The GTX 1650 follows with about 4%, and the RTX 3060 Ti sits at around 3.58%, rounding out the top three. Among the 40-series GeForce lineup, only the RTX 4060 (3.47%), RTX 4060 Laptop (3.21%), and RTX 4060 Ti (2.84%) managed to crack the top 10, occupying the fifth, seventh, and tenth spots respectively. AMD Radeon graphics cards, however, did not appear in the top tier list for Steam users.
The hardware landscape also shows a strong preference for Intel processors, with 67.40% of Steam users on Intel-based systems and 32.54% running AMD-based devices. Within processor cores, the most common configurations are six-core (33.67%), eight-core (19.95%), and four-core (18.47%).
On the software side, Windows 10 remains the dominant operating system, installed on 50.16% of computers. This marks a continued rise, adding 0.74 percentage points in July, while Windows 11 experienced a slight decline of 0.82%, holding 45.81% of the share.
Language distribution within Steam shows English as the leading system language at 34.06%, followed by simplified Chinese at 31.98%, with Russian accounting for 8.17% of users as a system language. These figures illustrate the global reach of Steam and the diverse user base that engages with games on the platform.
A notable note from the community is the ongoing concern among former Steam Deck users about a game that reportedly causes issues with the handheld console. This feedback highlights the important role that hardware compatibility and user experience play in platform stability and game optimization, especially for portable devices.
