Roskomnadzor states that there is no justification to unblock the Twitter social network at this time, noting that the platform has not yet removed about 1,300 restricted materials. This stance comes from the department’s press service, which communicated the situation to TASS and outlined the current blocking criteria that continue to apply to the service.
Anton Gorelkin, who previously served as a Deputy of the State Duma and held the position of Deputy Chairman of the Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, shared on the Kremlin’s Telegram channel that Twitter should be unblocked in light of the blocking of official accounts tied to Russian government departments. He highlighted restrictions affecting accounts belonging to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense, as well as various Russian embassies abroad, arguing that the absence of these accounts in the region undermines the proportionality of the restrictions and warrants reconsideration by the authorities of the Russian Federation.
The ministry, however, reiterated that there is no basis for lifting the restrictions on foreign services at present, stressing that the current policy remains in force until the specified content is addressed and the platform complies with the established demands. In this context, media outlets including Daily Telegraph reported that Twitter has begun to propagate in its search results the accounts of the Kremlin, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, and other ministries, along with Russian embassies overseas, raising questions about the potential implications for information flow and state communications once unblocking proposals are considered.
