Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke at the launch of TSMC’s new factory in Arizona, highlighting that Apple plans to shift chip production to the United States. The event was covered by CNBC. Cook emphasized that combining TSMC’s advanced capabilities with American workers would help reduce dependence on China for semiconductor supply.
He noted that the chips manufactured here could be proudly labeled Made in America, calling the development a milestone for the tech industry and for national manufacturing. The company outlined plans to establish at least two semiconductor fabrication facilities in Arizona, with CNBC reporting that Taiwanese experts are already advising American staff on assembly techniques and the training required for all essential processes.
TSMC’s roadmap includes producing 600 million silicon wafers annually. The second Arizona plant is slated to begin operations in 2026. Morris Chang, the founder of TSMC, previously signed off on the plans for a facility in Arizona that would manufacture 3-nanometer chips.
Tim Cook has also indicated in past remarks that Apple intends to broaden its domestic chip supply beyond the Arizona site, exploring additional production at facilities in Europe while continuing to expand manufacturing capacity in the United States.
