The Seoul City AI Initiative Tackles Digital Sex Crimes
The Seoul government now leverages artificial intelligence to monitor and detect digital sex crimes around the clock, according to Yonhap News Agency. A dedicated City Digital Sex Crimes Center uses an AI-based oversight system designed to automatically search for, remove, and curb the spread of sexual abuse videos on social media.
Officials explain that the system relies on deep learning to rapidly identify victim-related sexual abuse videos across platforms. By jointly analyzing acoustic signals, visuals, and text, the program can match related content much faster than manual review and can scale as more data flows in.
City officials note that the approach dramatically reduces the time needed to respond. What previously required about two hours can now be completed in roughly three minutes. As the system accumulates more data, its accuracy and speed are expected to improve, further enabling authorities to intervene quickly while reducing the emotional burden on victims because the computer handles the initial processing of obscene material.
The center dedicated to combatting digitally-based sexual crimes has been in operation for about a year and has assisted hundreds of victims. During this period, it supported more than 400 cases, with a significant share involving minors.
