1C Game Studios Announces Tales of Old Rus
1C Game Studios, a Russian development team under the 1C umbrella, has revealed a new project titled Tales of Old Rus. The announcement was shared through DTF, a Russian gaming outlet.
The project will draw from a series of art books sharing the same name, created by Russian artist Roman Papsuev, who works under the pseudonym Amok. His gallery pieces are etched in brutal fantasy and present scenes and characters from beloved folk tales. Typically, each image is paired with a narrative caption that explains the action and introduces the creatures that inhabit these scenes.
1C Game Studios envisions Tales of Old Rus as the start of a broader game series. At present, the individual projects remain in the prototype phase, and there is no established link between them yet. The plan is to expand the concept into multiple titles that explore this mythic Russia through interactive storytelling and distinctive visual artistry.
The studio has indicated that the first installment is anticipated to arrive in the market in the near term. While concrete release details are still forthcoming, the approach suggests a focus on atmospheric world-building and art-driven gameplay that mirrors the source material’s stark and dramatic aesthetics.
Beyond the Tales of Old Rus books themselves, Papsuev has contributed illustrations to other notable works. For example, he participated in visualizing elements for a well-known fantasy saga. The artist has also produced art for various authors and projects, demonstrating a broad range of styles and subjects across different fantasy universes.
Notes from coverage on socialmedia-related outlets highlight ongoing conversations around Russian developers and their projects, reflecting the broader context of the gaming landscape in the region.
