US technology company Seagate has begun shipping its latest hard drive models with record capacities surpassing 30TB to select enterprise customers, according to Tom’s Hardware. These high capacity units mark a significant milestone as the company pushes forward with a technology that enhances data density and performance in demanding storage environments.
The breakthrough comes from the application of thermal magnetic data recording technology, which enables greater storage density and efficiency. The new drives are delivered as part of Corvault’s enterprise data center packages, reflecting Seagate’s strategic focus on scalable, resilient storage for large-scale operations.
Qualification samples have been distributed to customers for field testing. If no major issues emerge during the trials, the upgraded Corvault complexes will move toward full deployment, with the ensuing revenue slated to be reflected in Seagate’s quarterly results.
There has been no formal announcement about when disks featuring thermal magnetic recording will reach the consumer market. Still, Seagate has signaled plans to ramp up production in 2024 with the second generation of its advanced data recording technology, signaling a broader horizon for data center and consumer storage products alike.
