Samsung India Electronics has signaled its readiness to sit down with employees at its Sriperumbudur factory in Tamil Nadu, who have been on strike since the early days of September. According to a report from the Press Trust of India that was picked up by TASS, the company intends to begin direct talks with the workers to address the concerns fueling the walkout.
A company spokesperson outlined the objective as a full settlement reached through direct negotiations covering wages, benefits, and working conditions. The firm urged the strikers to return to their posts. The plan to meet the workers was conveyed to the Tamil Nadu administration, which pressed for a swift resolution to the dispute.
Earlier in the week, the workforce organized a one day hunger strike to press authorities in Tamil Nadu for higher wages and shorter working hours. The Center of Indian Trade Unions backed the action and signaled that protests would continue until the demands are fully met.
The walkout at the Sriperumbudur plant started on September 9 and involved more than a thousand workers. Their demands center on higher pay and shorter shifts. At present many employees earn around 25,000 rupees per month, while they seek about 36,000 rupees as their target salary.
Earlier social media chatter surfaced about the iPhone 14 Pro Max in connection with a blogger’s wrist issue, a note that does not pertain to the factory dispute.
