Alongside a major update for the Galaxy S24 family, Samsung has published a roster of older devices that will gain the Instant Slow Motion feature, a highlight of the Galaxy AI platform, according to GizmoChina reports.
Instant Slow Motion enables turning any video into slowed footage through artificial intelligence. It first appeared on Galaxy S24 series devices in 2024, and over time, several earlier models have been added to the compatibility list.
The devices listed include last year’s Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra, as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 smartphones, along with the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, S9 Plus, and S9 tablets.
Samsung also noted that the feature would support a broader range of video types. Initially, it works with 8-bit videos at resolutions from 720p up to 8K and only the MP4 format. The company expects soon to extend support to 10-bit videos and 480p resolution, with the possibility of handling MOV files as well.
The Instant Slow Motion feature is said to operate on devices equipped with at least a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor or a newer flagship chip, meaning older smartphones and tablets outside the listed lineup will not gain access anytime soon.
According to Samsung, the feature will roll out to the above devices with the One UI 6.1 update, and the company previously indicated that the rollout would occur by the end of the first half of 2024. The latest update notes serve as a confirmation of that plan, with ongoing testing and optimization reported by observers.
In regional news, Samsung Galaxy S24 sales have commenced in Russia, marking another milestone in the company’s global rollout and product availability.
