By 2030, every school in Russia is planned to be wired with Wi-Fi and equipped with video surveillance, a major commitment announced by Maksut Shadayev, head of the Ministry of Digital Development. The aim is to connect classrooms with reliable digital infrastructure that supports modern teaching methods and safe school environments. This initiative is part of a broader push toward a connected education system that can serve millions of students across the country.
According to Shadayev, the plan includes creating comprehensive Wi-Fi networks in all schools and providing secondary school teachers along with subject students with Russian tablets. These devices will grant access to top educational services available today, enabling a richer, more interactive learning experience. The objective is to ensure that every student has seamless access to digital tools that enhance learning outcomes and foster curiosity across disciplines.
The rollout will take place within the national project focused on Data Economy and the Digital Transformation of the State. As part of this effort, the country intends to develop a unified platform that will allow schoolchildren and university students to learn programming languages, engage with robotics, work with data, and explore services in the field of artificial intelligence. The emphasis is on building practical skills that prepare young people for a technology-driven future, while also strengthening the country’s digital ecosystem and data competencies for national development.
At the end of August, a report from a session of the political party Fair Russia – For Truth indicated that a bill had been submitted to the State Duma to provide hot meals at no cost for students in grades 5 through 9. Currently, primary school students already benefit from free hot meals, and the proposal aims to extend this nutritional support to a broader group of pupils. This initiative reflects a broader policy focus on child welfare and educational equity as part of the ongoing social agenda.
There was further discussion about the role of military science education within schools, highlighting the importance of integrating relevant studies into the curriculum. The emphasis on practical, real-world applications underscores a commitment to preparing students for a range of potential career paths and service responsibilities, while maintaining a broad and balanced educational foundation for all learners.
