Russia Launches Fault Monitoring and Related Network-Resilience Tools

In Russia, a domestic counterpart to the Downdetector service has been introduced under the name Fault Monitoring, according to TASS. The platform operates on the website of the Public Network Monitoring and Control Center (CMU SSOP), providing a centralized view of online service reliability across the country.

The Bug Tracking feature lets users observe the performance and accessibility of various online resources. It relies on reports from everyday users who may experience issues with accessing online banking, digital services, or telecom operators. Once a complaint is received, CMU SSOP analysts examine the root cause using the Center’s analytical systems to determine where the disruption originates and how it propagates through the network.

The service site includes a fault heatmap that visualizes failures by region, offering a geographic snapshot of which services are experiencing problems at a given moment. There is also a Mirror service, which provides visibility into the status of autonomous systems, routing details, and the relationships between networks. This information is refreshed in real time from the major Russian telecom operators, collected through the Center’s continuous monitoring capabilities.

A further feature on the site is the Number Resource Register. This register contains information about network addresses, autonomous systems, their interconnections, and the owners responsible for them. It enables users to retrieve data about routing objects such as IP addresses and autonomous systems, contributing to the overall stability and resilience of Runet by reducing reliance on foreign internet records.

Additionally, there was mention that Russia is pursuing the development of radiation-tolerant semiconductor chips intended for use in space and nuclear power facilities. This research aims to advance the security and reliability of critical infrastructure through more robust hardware platforms.
