The representative of the Russian Federation, Irina Tyazhlova, stated at a meeting of the UN Open-Ended Working Group on information and communications security that Western nations have mobilized hackers-mercenaries to carry out operations against Russia. The disclosure was reported by TASS.
Tyazhlova noted that since the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, Western countries have waged a broad campaign aimed at testing the resilience of Russia’s economy, financial system, energy sector, and the core industries that sustain the nation. The diplomat emphasized that the pressure extends beyond conventional domains, targeting the structural pillars of the Russian state through coordinated cyber activity.
She remarked that Russian information networks have faced an extraordinary surge of cyber assaults, with the volume rising significantly since the operation began. According to Tyazhlova, the Western bloc is actively enlisting hacker-mercenaries, leveraging the information and communications capabilities of allied nations and controlled private companies, and enlisting ordinary users from around the world to participate in what she called a criminal enterprise.
In recent developments, Ukrainian hacker Phoenix reportedly joined the Russian-linked KillNet group in an effort described as retribution for associates detained in Ukraine.
Earlier, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting of the Security Council, highlighted a considerable uptick in cyberattacks on Russian information systems and insisted that a real assault in the digital domain is being waged against the country.
