Roskomnadzor Reports Large-Scale Blocking and Alleged Platform Self-Censorship

Since Russia initiated a special military operation in Ukraine, Roskomnadzor has identified and blocked more than 157,000 pieces of false content and calls for anti-war demonstrations. This was stated by Vadim Subbotin, the Deputy Head of Roskomnadzor, in a report attributed to TASS.

According to Subbotin, the entire period since the operation began has seen the detection and blocking of over 157,000 counterfeit materials, along with appeals to participate in anti-war protests.

On YouTube, More than 35,000 videos were found to violate Russian law, and the platform declined to remove these materials even after Roskomnadzor requested action. Alexander Khinshtein, who chairs the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, noted that the service frequently engages in self censorship by limiting access to content from Russian media, authorities, and socio political organizations. He pointed out that only 15 such incidents were documented in the latter half of the previous year.
